You mention an “upbeat guitar hook” I think you will find that this was a Medodica which was played at the time of recording by the fifth member of the band, Pete Sykes, who tragically passed away after the recordings. If you’d done your homework you would have found this on many other sights carrying reviews. I personally think it’s very good, but I suppose I would as I’m Pete’s mother.

I wonder if Peter Warne can name a more successful tunesmith than McCartney over the past 50 years? And can he name me two Beatles or solo McCartney songs that sound a bit a like? I don’t believe he can. Every hook, every melody was different. No song repeated itself. Look at all the other great acts over the past 40/50 years. The Stones, Bee Gees, Abba, Queen,etc – I love them all but some of their songs sounded alike. NOT the Beatles or solo McCartney. I rest my case.

Yes, I agree with you. Kisses On The Bottom is not my kind of music, either, and it’s the first McCartney solo album that I shan’t be buying. But the guy remains the most successful songwriter in the history of music to boot. Genius? You bet!
