Music Playlist: This Week's Best Songs

Passion Pit – Take a Walk

Passion Pit – Take a Walk

American electro-pop from Cambridge, Massachusetts. After forming in 2007 they went onto have success with debut album Manners. Their singles The reeling and Sleepy head have been featured in TV shows and were constantly played on national radio.

Keeping the nostalgic atmospheric beat but this time it has added umph. The vocals take you to another level… Take a Walk literally takes you walking around your memories of summer. Perfect for festivals and BBQ’s, get it on your Jubilee weekend playlist now.

Jessie Ware – 110%

Jessie Ware – 110%

This English singer/songwriter is signed to PMR records and having picked up ears with her single Running earlier this year everyone’s been waiting to hear more.

So much soul and energy running though it she is obviously giving 110%.  With an eclectic beat and rhythmic vocals, we expect big things for Jessie Ware.  Think it sounds familiar? It’s not a million miles away from Kelis and Andre 3000′s ‘Millionaire’. The lyrics really carry the tune with random bouts of a male voice waking you from a trance.  Out very soon.

Ben Howard – Call Me, Maybe?

Ben Howard – Call Me, Maybe?

Devonshire folk singer Ben Howard is signed to Island Records which has a varied history of UK folk singers such as Nick Drake and John Martyn. Having now established himself on the scene, Howard is already winning over national audiences. His new single Only Love is out soon but you can get his debut album Every Kingdom right now.

It’s very rare to find a voice so soulful it can carry another person’s song like their own but spinning a folk twist on to Carly Rae Jepson’s Call Me, Maybe? Ben Howard has done just that. A beautiful cover by an amazing talent.

Diagrams – Ghost Lit

Diagrams – Ghost Lit

A British band mainly rounded by Sam Genders previously of Tunng and The Accidental and a group of rotating musicians. Last year they released a self-titled EP of 5 songs and followed it up with a full album, Black Light, this year.

With the ever changing line up Diagrams challenge themselves and manage to keep their sound relatively original.  This psychedelic trip of the mind could leave you spinning  but Ghost Lit will also leaving you with that loving feeling.

Trailer Trash Tracys – Los Angered

Trailer Trash Tracys – Los Angered

Championed by music journalism’s best, the members of Trailer Trash Tracys  Suzanne Aztoria, Jimmy Lee, Adam Jaffrey and Dayo James are rock music juniors. Taking varied influences the quartet are cute, cunning but ooze rock’n’roll. Candy Girl/You wish You were Red the single is out now.

I guess they like reverb. Maybe a little too much. This track is hazardous, approach with caution, the lyrics are a mine field and so mind boggling you’ll need a slap round the face to come round again.

Niki & the Dove – All This Youth

Niki & the Dove – All This Youth

Swedish electro wizards Niki & the Dove are set to return (after three great singles) on May 14 when their debut album ‘Instinct’ is finally released. The band were nominated for the BBC’s Sound of 2012 poll, finishing in fifth place, so there is a small bit of hype around this band amongst “those in the know”.

‘All This Youth’ is an extra from the special edition version of the new album, which bodes well for the LP if this fantastic chill-out electro tune failed to make it onto the final cut. If you love Metronomy, then Niki & the Dove are going to spend a lot of time on your stereo during 2012!
