Genna Marabese

June 10, 2015

Genna Marabese

Who is this?

Genna Marabese is an exciting new alternative singer-songwriter from Bedfordshire. She has an alluring, enigmatic presence that once seen and heard, pricks your conscience and you are soon caught under her musical spell. Genna is just about to release her ‘self-titled’ debut album in late June following the release of her third single last month entitled ‘I Need To Leave’ available on Bandcamp. Her first two singles ‘We Are Animal’ & ‘Masquerade’ received plenty of airplay over the past couple of years including Steve Lamacq’s, Tom Robinson’s and Frank Skinner’s radio shows.

What does she sound like?

Genna’s serves up a pretty captivating distinctive brand of leftfield-pop ticking all the correct boxes of all indie and alt-rock lovers. Her latest single ‘I Need To Leave’ is a short, fast pace, hypnotic and edgy, reminiscent of Elastica from around ‘The Menace’ period with a touch of The Fall. ‘We Are Animal’ is a superb dark pop song about the animal within you who attempts to destroy everything good around you. It starts off acoustically before the band kicks in with layers of guitars giving it rich textures. In her quirky track ‘Masquerade’ you can hear a riff not too dissimilar to Gary Numan’s ‘Metal’. I’m sure there’s a hint of Cockney Rebel’s ‘Mr Soft’ in her track ‘Toys’ from the ‘Toys EP’.

A few words from the artist himself…

“I used to go by the name ‘Sister Ray’ making what I would term as ‘gypsy circus music’. It was a kind of cabaret vaudeville thing. I then killed off Sister Ray and concentrated on writing loads of new material of which is now available to purchase on iTunes and Bandcamp. You can sample my music on Soundcloud. I’m looking forward to releasing my debut album. I hope you enjoy my work.”
