Lucy Rose

January 4, 2012 1

Lucy Rose is the striking 22 year old singer-songwriter from London (via Warwickshire) who has once again proved that internet exposure can be the road to success in the music industry.

Early demos exhibited on MySpace earned Rose the attention of several global stars, most notably Jack Steadman, member of the hugely popular indie band Bombay Bicycle Club. Lucy then went on to support the band on their 2011 UK tour and also lent her stunning vocals to their cover of Lana de Reys Video Games for Radio 1’s Live Lounge. Recently however, Rose has been recognised as an up- and -coming star in her own right with Edith Bowman, radio DJ, having named her as an artist to watch out for in 2012.

With a voice as rich in texture as Florence Welch, the lyrical marvel has just debuted her first EP, produced by the brilliant Charlie Hugall (the genius behind Florence and the Machine and Jack Penate) and released through Fauna Records. The title track Middle of the Bed is a stunning introduction to this young woman’s intoxicating voice and demonstrates a class of song-writing that seems almost too advanced for an artist at the tender age of 22.

Rose’s other tracks, Scar and Bikes, videos of which can be found on YouTube, are shining examples of just how exquisitely diverse her music can be, a feature that will undoubtedly ensure her success as a top indie/folk artist in the near future. Scar in particular, demonstrates the astonishing ways in which Rose can manipulate her dainty voice to evoke empathy; refreshingly she succeeds without the typical grandstanding tendencies employed by so many other artists.

The centrepiece of Rose’s appeal however, is her charm. Her songs tell their own story; each laced with pure compassion, and sung straight from the heart.

  1. Lucy Rose has a wonderfuly calming voice with an undertone of power and depth, which pulls the listener into the lullaby of her songs. If you adore Laura Marling, then Lucy Rose is undoubtably someone you need to get your ear drums chillin’ to as the sun slowly sets and you just want to forget about the chaos around you.
