Hailing from the mean streets of Limehouse in London, quartet Pet Scenes are really not to be confused with Pet Sounds, or anything Beach Boys related. Visceral, abrasive and grimy, their noise lies in the space between garage rock and post-punk, creating a quite ferocious racket in the process. I’m also quite the fan of their logo – a decapitated, vomiting head. Nice.
Having only formed at the start of the year, Pet Scenes have been busy recording a series of demos. Nothing unusual there, but their tiny practice room is next door to a transvestite club. Let’s hope they don’t ever turn up intoxicated and stumble in the wrong door. Their latest EP, Idle Children, is available for free from their Soundcloud page.
“Melt” sounds like In Utero era Nirvana, “What Friends” is instantly faster and furiouser (minus Vin Diesel), and shows that they can play effectively at both speeds. Currently unsigned, with a bit more seasoning it shouldn’t be too long until they are smashing down doors with their battering ram assault.
