As the American folk infused indie rock band Port O’Brian dissembled in Spring 2010, the former lead singer and founder of the group Van Pierszalowski grew to love music again after an inspiration visit to Oslo in Norway that fuelled a spontaneous travelling adventure. His newfound passion for music again is encapsulated in his most recent solo project, WATERS.
Having wanting to take a break from music and the hectic lifestyle of touring, Pierszalowski explored the wonders of the Norwegian city and experienced the magical changes of the seasons. It was here he was compelled to continue discovering beautiful landscapes and constantly change his environment. He found himself visiting Alaska, New York and California, and simply just by travelling, his spark for writing music returned.
Veering away from the previous style displayed by Port O’Brian, he focused on creating a much bigger sound. Van constructed a band of Norwegian gentlemen and went to Dallas in Texas to record his debut album, ‘Out in the Light.’ Working with producer John Congleton for a brief ten-day recording session in April, their debut album was ready for release last September.
The album is fuelled by sentimental intimacy and intense emotion yet is conveyed in a much louder and aggressive manner Pierszalowski has ever crafted. It is a mix of hazy guitar riffs, roaring drumbeats and melodies that scream lethargically.
On March 12th, WATERS are releasing the single ‘Take Me to the Coast’ from ‘Out in the Light’, via City Slang to coincide with their up and coming European tour. This will see them hit two UK venues, which are King Tut’s Wah Wah Hut in Glasgow on the 7th February and the KOKO in London on 8th February.
