In what can only be described as one of the year’s more bizarre career moves, East 17, minus controversial frontman Brian Harvey, will release a stadium rock-inspired album.
Centring their inspiration on Kings of Leon [Caleb Followill, pictured right] and U2, with other artists such as Billy Joel and Brian Adams [Bryan Adams?] mentioned in the album’s press release, Walthamstow’s bad boys of the 1990s, who were all rap/R’n’B tinged back then, will release the album, called Dark Light, on April 2nd.
The press release said: “It showcases the band’s new transatlantic rock sound, reminiscent of bands like Kings Of Leon and U2 and even artists like Brian Adams and Billy Joel It’s a brave move and one that’s paid off on a record that’s as catchy as ‘Summer Of 69′ and as soft rock and big sounding as it gets.”
Fans of Stay another Day and Deep may feel slightly left-behind, but Tony Mortimer, the band’s main songwriter, has said “I think everyone is subconsciously inspired by American music and rock ‘n’ roll and this time around we wanted to do something more live with less tricks.”
