M.I.A raised her middle finger during her half-time Super Bowl performance.
NBC – the TV station that broadcast this year’s event – have released a statement apologising for the “inappropriate gesture” at the American Football event, which has a global audience of well over 100 million.
The statement said: “The NFL hired the talent and produced the halftime show. Our system was late to obscure the inappropriate gesture and we apologize to our viewers. There was a failure in NBC’s delay system. The obscene gesture in the performance was completely inappropriate, very disappointing, and we apologize to our fans.”
The incident occurred when Minaj and M.I.A. joined Madonna onstage for Give Me All Your Luvin’ during her high profile half-time performance at the game between the New York Giants and the New England Patriots. M.I.A. also appeared to sing “I don’t give a sh*t” at the end of her performance.
