Noel Gallagher says Adele’s success won’t last

February 5, 2012 2

Noel Gallagher has revealed that he doesn’t expect continued success for Adele.

The singer-songwriter, currently working under his Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds moniker, spoke to the Mail On Sunday and said he feels sorry for females in the music business due to their careers appearing to be more short-lived.

Gallagher said: “I feel sorry for girls in the music industry. They do have a very short shelf life.

“For instance, Duffy: who? Gone. She was massive. And I don’t doubt for a second that the same thing will happen to Adele.”

The 44-year-old star also surprisingly claimed that Britain was more creative under Margaret Thatcher and slammed popular social networking site Twitter.

He added: “Under Thatcher, who ruled us with an iron rod great art was made. Amazing designers and musicians. Acid house was born. Very colourful and progressive.

“Now, no one’s got anything to say. Write a song? No thanks, I’ll say it on Twitter. It’s a sad state when more people retweet than buy records.”

Adele’s 21 was the best-selling album of the year in both the UK and the US in 2011.
