Bobby Gillespie has teamed up with punk poet Mark Stewart for a new song and video.
Primal Scream have teamed up with Stewart, formally of influential post-punk band The Pop Group, on Stewart’s single Autonomia. The song is about a protester – Carlo Giuliani – who was killed in the 2001 G8 demonstrations in Genoa.
Speaking about Stewart, Gillespie said: “Starting out as a teenager in the late 70s with the Pop Group and through the 80s with the Maffia up to his new solo record, Mark Stewart has led the attack on conformist reality. Mark is a constant inspiration and a true Thief of Fire. A poet of paranoia and a great laugh. What a guy.”
The video is directed by the original bassist in The Jesus and Mary Chain, Douglas Hart. The original line-up also featured Bobby Gillespie on drums. Watch the video below.
