The Vaccines believe they are successful because they write simple songs.
Frontman Justin Young has put the band’s success with debut album What Did You Expect from the Vaccines? down to the group deciding to go “back to basics” and focus on writing simple pop songs.
Young said: “All of us in the band wanted to make this a very a really back to basics record and make an album that was pure pop music from start to finish. I think it was as good an album as we could have made at that time.
“Knowing what our ambition was, I don’t think any of us could have been happier with it. It’s simplistic pop music recorded in a really uncompromising way. I’m really proud of it. I think we did exactly what we wanted to do.”
Speaking about the band’s recent nominations (Best New Band and Best New Album) at the upcoming NME Awards, Young added: “We were in this position this time last year where everything for us seemed to hinge on a set of predictions, so to come out with a record that’s really connected with people and to be able to tour all over the world has been amazing.
“Whatever people say about us there haven’t been many bands who have started the year as a tip and ended up playing the Brixton Academy in London.”
Meanwhile, news that The Vaccines are recording their new album with producer Ethan Johns was revealed last month.
