Performance
Hats off to Kasabian, they were spot on. Instrumentally it was hard to distinguish the live performance from the studio recording, and Tom Meighan’s vocals were flawless. The frontman has a great stage presence that really got the crowd going, and the fact that they were performing in their home city seemed to add an extra energy.

Setlist
With the tour following quickly after the release of ‘Velociraptor’, the band was of course eager to showcase their new album, the best picks being ‘Days Are Forgotten’ and ‘Velociraptor’. However they got the new/old balance right and the selection of past songs was expertly chosen; ‘Fire’ and ‘Empire’ were among the highlights of the gig. There was even the odd slower song slipped in to give the crowd a breather.

Crowd Interaction
Kasabian are blessed with a great frontman in Tom Meighan, whose charisma allows the rest of the band to concentrate on looking cool. Meighan addressed the crowd with all the affection of long-lost family, and finished off the gig with a group rendition of a Leicester City football chant. My friend even got a wink.

For the most part there’s not a lot to say about Kasabian’s image; like Oasis before them they are deliberately casual, making no statements in their t-shirts and jeans. However we can always rely on Sergio to pick up the slack; on the night he opted for leopard print.

Overall
The overnight queue and narrowly-avoided case of hypothermia was definitely worth it; right at the front the crowd was packed in like sardines and the atmosphere was electric. The hour and a half set flew by, and I left with the adrenaline still pumping, confident that I had just witnessed one of the best live bands our generation in their prime.
